By the early nineties the lower east side was hitting bottom. Drugs, HIV, crime, gentrification forcing people out of their homes, it was dismal. A dark time in my own life as well. This was one of my most demanding public pieces. Over the summer I wheat pasted about 75 of these silkscreens throughout Manhattan's lower east side. It was a complicated piece strategically, involving military precision, midnight missions, and the generous help of many friends.
